Hackathon focused on positive social change in the Middle East

HackingME welcomes University of Waterloo students to the first Hackathon focused on positive social change in the Middle East held in Canada!

What is HackingME?

Hacking the Middle East is a Toronto Hackathon bringing together software developers, designers, experts in middle eastern politics, history, governance, culture (and many other areas) to build solutions for positive social change in the middle east.

What’s the Goal?

The mission for Hacking the Middle East is to bring together a community with a diverse set of skills to collaborate and work on ideas for positive social change in the Middle East.  We hope to bring together Software Developers, Graphic Designers, User Interface Designers, Project Managers and Middle Eastern domain experts for a full-weekend to work on projects with a focus on improving aspects of the middle east. Project ideas are decided by event participants and can be joined by anyone who feels passionate about that project. The HackingME Hackathon aims to foster rapid innovation and collaboration in a weekend.

Limited‐term teaching assistant professor (University of Victoria)

The Department of Computer Science at the University of Victoria invites applications for limited‐term Teaching Assistant Professor (formerly Senior Instructor) positions starting September 1, 2014 or January 1, 2015.  A variety of appointment options may be available. For example, the highly qualified individuals employed will be responsible for teaching three courses during an 8‐month part-time appointment (e.g., one course in the fall and two courses in the spring) appointment, or six courses (e.g., two courses in the fall, three courses in the spring and 1 course in the summer) for a 12-month full-time appointment.

Possible teaching assignments include first‐year programming courses, first and second year computer science courses, as well as computer graphics courses at all levels. Computer Science course descriptions can be found at http://www.csc.uvic.ca/Program_Information/Undergraduate_Courses/. Success-ful applicants will also be assigned selected administrative duties.

Qualifications: candidates must be experienced in teaching computer science courses and must hold a PhD or Masters in Computer Science or a closely related field. A PhD is a significant asset.

The term is 8 months or 12 months. The salary for an 8‐month three-course appointment is $32,500. The salary for a one-year six-course appointment is $65,000. Hacking Health Kids @ SickKids, May 2-4

I work at Toronto General Hospital, and my department, the Centre for global eHealth Innovation is cosponsoring an event called Hacking Health Kids this May.

The event is being held at the Hospital of Sick Children in Toronto. We've had participation from Waterloo Comp Sci at Hacking Health events in the past 2 years and we would love to see you again! This time, programmers and technologies are coming together to create innovative and sustainable solutions that impact Paediatric health and delivery. The event will be held at Toronto's SickKids Research Centre over the May 2-4 weekend!

It would be a great opportunity for students at all levels to attend as it's hands on experience with current technological innovators. Faculty, or anyone else interested is also welcome. Registration is at http://www.hackinghealth.ca/events/toronto/hhsickkids2014/

Faculty Positions for Indian Citizens at IIT Jodhpur

Applications are invited from Indian Nationals with exceptional academic record in teaching, good research record and valuable industrial experience relevant to teaching and research for full-time faculty positions of Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor and Assistant Professor (on Contract) to carryout teaching and research in the following three disciplines :
1.   Computer Science & Engineering,
2.   Electrical Engineering, and
3.   Mechanical Engineering
Persons with exceptional academic and research record in other areas also are invited to apply. The requirement of minimum experience may be relaxed for applicants with outstanding credentials. Higher emoluments may be given by the Selection Committee to selected applicants with significant research and / or industrial experience. Foreign National also are invited to apply for the post of Visiting Faculty (On Contract)

1. Applicant’s Qualification 
(a) Professor
  1. Ph.D. with First Class or equivalent in the appropriate discipline, with at least First Class academic record throughout from 10th Class to  Ph.D. Degree.
  2. At least a minimum of 10 years teaching, research and/or industrial experience, of which at least 4 years should be  at the level of Associate Professor in IITs, IISc, IIMs and IISERs or at an equivalent level in any such other Indian or Foreign Institute.

(b) Associate Professor
  1. Ph.D. with First Class or equivalent in the appropriate discipline, with at least First Class academic record throughout from 10th Class to Ph.D. Degree.
  2. At least a minimum of 6 years teaching, research and/or industrial experience, of which at least 3 years should be at the level of Assistant Professor.

 (c) Assistant Professor
  1. Ph.D. with First Class or equivalent in the appropriate discipline, with at least First Class academic record throughout from 10th Class to Ph.D. Degree.
  2. At least a minimum of 3 years teaching, research and/or industrial experience, from the date of defending the Ph.D. Thesis (duration while pursuing Ph.D. Program is not  be included).
  3. Applicants should be below 35 years of age preferably on date of interview.

(d) Assistant Professor (on Contract)
i.          Fresh Ph.D. with First Class or equivalent in the appropriate discipline, with at least First Class academic record throughout from 10th class to Ph.D. Degree. Selected candidates shall be
a.         placed in Pay Band 3 of Rs. 15,600-39,100 with AGP of Rs. 6,000 with seven
            non-compounded advance increments;
b.         Moved after 1 year to AGP of Rs. 7,000 based on a review of performance;
c.         Moved after 3 years to AGP of Rs. 8,000 with a minimum pay of Rs. 30,000
            based on a review of performance; and.
d.         Moved to Pay Band 4 (Rs.37,400-67,000) with an AGP of Rs. 9,000 on completion of 3 years of service as Assistant Professor with AGP of Rs. 8,000 based on a review of performance.
ii.         Applicants should be below 35 years of age preferably on date of interview.
(e) Foreign Nationals
     Foreign Nationals and persons with PIO card are eligible for the post of Visiting Faculty (on    Contract) with consolidated monthly salary of Rs. 60, 000 – 1, 00,000

3. Additional Support to New Faculty Members
The following conveniences are provided to Faculty Members joining the Institute:
  1. Reimbursement of relocation expenses of up to Rs. 1,50,000 or actual (whichever is  less) for candidates joining for full-time positions at the Institute from  abroad/from any place in India, subject to maximum of one-way economy class airfare for travel for family. This facility is available only to candidates joining the posts of Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor after executing a bond to serve IIT Jodhpur for 3 Years. Persons joining the post of Assistant Professor (On Contract) can become eligible only, if they are offered the post of Assistant Professor after due review of performance; in such cases, a bond shall be executed to serve IIT Jodhpur for 3 Years after joining the post of Assistant Professor.
  2.  Reimbursement of telephone bills up to Rs. 1,500 per month.  
  3. A Cumulative Professional Development Allowance (CPDA) of Rs. 3 lakhs for     every block period of 3 years on reimbursable basis to meet expenses related to     participation in national and international conferences, payment of membership    fee towards professional bodies, purchase of books and contingent expenses.
  4. Research initiation grant up to Rs. 50 Lakhs within the initial period of 3 years from the date of joining.
  5. Transit accommodation upto a period of 30 days on payment of Rs.280 towards Hostel Accommodation. Within this period, the Institute will try to offer suitable accommodation on the residential campus, if available. When such accommodation is not available, the employee is required seek private accommodation in the city.
  6. Medical re-imbursement as per Institute norms.
  7. Reimbursement of education allowance for children up to 12th Class for the first two children.
  8. Contribution towards New Pension Scheme (NPS) as per norms of Government of India.

Limited-Term Lecturer Position at UWindsor

The University of Windsor invites applications for a One-Year Limited-Term Lecturer position in the School of Computer Science commencing July 1, 2014. This position is subject to final budgetary approval. 

The School of Computer Science at the University of Windsor consists of 20 professors, 8 support staff, over 400 undergraduate students, and approximately one hundred graduate students. Areas of funded research include Artificial Intelligence, Bioinformatics, Computer Vision, Data Mining, Distributed and High-Performance Computing, Graphics, Image Processing, Information Retrieval, Networks, Software Engineering, and Theoretical Computer Science.
