Four open faculty positions at Stony Brook University

Dear Department Chair, As part of the inaugural mission of the new Institute for Advanced Computational Science (IACS) at Stony Brook University (SBU), we are advertising four new faculty positions: two endowed chairs and two junior faculty. For this search, each IACS faculty member will have a joint appointment with our institute and either the Computer Science or Applied Mathematics & Statistics departments at SBU. We would appreciate it if you could circulate the attached advertisement to all those you feel might be interested in and appropriate for the open positions. Of specific interest is research in, for example, programming models, algorithms, or numerical representations that advance scientific productivity or broaden the benefit and impact of high-performance and data-centric computing.

The IACS (http://iacs.stonybrook.edu/) was established in 2012 with an endowment of $20M and the intent to make sustained advances in the fundamental techniques of computation and in high-impact applications including engineering and the physical, life, and social sciences. The current eight faculty members will double in number over the next few years to span all aspects of computation with the intent of creating a vibrant, multi-disciplinary program. Our goal is to generate ideas that will influence not only SBU but the state, the nation and our international research communities. We are looking for active, interdisciplinary thinkers who take intellectual risks and find excitement in developing and sharing ideas and technologies on a global stage. The selected candidates will have access to world-class facilities including those at nearby Brookhaven National Laboratory.

Grad students needed to mark reports for PD2

WatPD is currently seeking graduate students to mark reports for PD2: Critical Reflection and Report Writing from late-March to early-April. Students in this course must write a 16-20 page report which is worth 50% of their final grade. With over 1500 reports expected to be submitted, we need your help!
